Be Mindful When You Scroll!
Feb 28, 2021Wrong or right, we all do it—we scroll through our newsfeed a few times a day. Even more now with Covid-19. Yes, we need to stay informed but, we also need to be careful not to get overwhelmed.
With smart devices, it’s so easy to overload. You just open your favorite app, and you’re instantly flooded with hundreds of stories competing for your attention. However, I’d like to make a suggestion for you about mindfulness... No, I’m not going to ask you to quit social media cold turkey.
I just want you to observe how you feel as you scroll. Be mindful of the content you’re seeing. Are all of the updates making you angry and edgy? Are they stressing you out and causing undue anxiety?
If the stories aren’t filling you with joy and reminding you of all the positive things in your life, could you let them go? Do you really need to follow that relative who’s always sharing her cynical worldview? Do you have to subscribe to that blogger that’s trying to stir up drama at every turn?
You don’t have to start unfollowing everyone. Just pause and consider how each person in your feed is impacting you. If that impact is less than favorable, could you limit their time in your feed?
Most social networks let you pause or mute some of the people you follow temporarily. Why not try it and see what happens? You never know…you might just feel more peaceful the next time you log in!
Did you make your social media more mindful?
